Revised 2008 FRBR Final Report in HTML and PDF

Filed under: IFLA — William Denton @ 7:08 am

IFLA’s put up two versions — I leave it as an exercise for the reader to fully FRBRize what’s going on here — of the 2008 revision of the Final Report on FRBR. The HTML version includes all of the tables, and no longer makes you go to the PDF version to see them.

  1. The 1998 version is 144 pages long. The 2008 version is 147 pages long. Is there a “summary of changes” anywhere? A manual comparison is a bit daunting.

  2. I assume it’s just two things, the errata and also the amendment about the definition of expression. They’re both here: http://www.ifla.org/VII/s13/frbr/

    I haven’t checked, though.

  4. My quick selective comparison of 1997 and 2008 versions reveals absolutely no change in:

    1. list of entities in Group 2. Although addition of a “family” entity has been discussed by FRBR working group, mentioned in Barbara Tillet’s presentations, and included in Functional Requirements to Authority Data conceptual model (FRAR, 2007), “family” entity is not part of the 2008 version of FRBR.

    2. definition of a “person” entity. Although this definition has been expanded by FRAR (2007) model to include groups of persons working under the same pseudonym (e.g., Ellery Queen) or trademark (e.g., Betty Crocker), these changes are not reflected in the updated FRBR version.

    3. definitions and attributes of Group 3 entities (concept, object, event, and place)
